Post Consumerism meeting

Here is one big post on this terms meeting so far. Me and the group have met up every week covering the assignments.

Week 1
The was are personality categorizing assignment. My results from the website test were saying i'm a high activist and low or very low for the rest. As a group were had a few activist's and came to a conclusion that we should concise of the activist maybe rushing things. Just say we are move to quickly. As a group we have worked well and not had any conflict.

Week 2
In this meeting we brain stormed post - consumerism and created this A3 sheet. The idea that post - consumerism has i that clothes, objects or anything can have value but not with a price tag. I kinda see it more for the return of sentimentality where its value is judged but how much it means to you. Advisedly that's that not post-consumerism but that's what i was thinking when i was reading up on this.

Week 3
This week we created are post consumerism poster and mind mapped idea for what are post consumerism business could be. We Made 2 posters one on each side, one being post consumerism and the other consumerism. I had an idea of the business a comparethemarket for post consumers so you look for the a place that would best repairs your items but everyone thought thats what a lot of other groups would be thinking so we left it. What we underlined in the mind map we were going to look into for the next meeting. My area is trading produce in markets instead of money. Which i like the thought of you can specializes in some produce and trade it with other specializes for there produce. No money just swopping to the value you think it has. Wonder how sentimentality would affect a market like that?

Some References

U.S. National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, 2007. (Hitting the headlines article) [online] The impact of diabetes on psychological well being and quality of life. The role of patient education. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17828675> [Accessed 30 November 2010].

This article speaking about the social impactions of diabetes and how the general population still don't understand this condition well enough, affecting the psychology and well being of the diabetic's themselves. This can be linked to my subject because it is the psychology and well being of the young people that is affecting there control and use of the technology

Our Life With Children & Diabetes, Julie [blog] http://pumpwearinc.blogspot.com/> [Accessed at 6 December]

This is a blog of a type 1 diabetic mother with 3 kids, wonting to share her experiences with the condition. On top of that she is looking into finding fun creative ways to wear an insulin pump's. This can relate to my topic because i'm trying to create the same thing for the youth and test monitors.

DIXD Bear Behaviors

We dont have a name as yet but this bear will be a toy aimed at both boys and girls, but based more at the extremes of these types of toys. For example boys have manly fighting action man and girls have girly bubbly barbie dolls.

So there will be 3 gestures one would be squeezing the belly and the other will be waving the hand, both saying something when it happens. The third is shaking the bear but the shake is the trigger to change the voice on the other two. So for example you squeeze the belly its says "i love you" then you shape it, then squeeze it again it will have a manly "aaahhhh".

These noises are meant to correspond to the type of play these kids will have so to explain the manly "aaahhh" its for when they are playing war and the bear gets hit. So the waving hand will have a "hi" for the girly side and i think some sort of spoken "bang" like its firing a lazer or something like that of the boys side.

Dissertation Time

I've had a good idea of what i wont to do for a while and i am really interested in this topic being a diabetic and experiencing all this myself . I wont to look into the interactions with diabetics and the technology involved. So this is speaking about older people and more importantly younger people. A lot of young diabetics sometimes go astray, missing injections and not testing there blood. The machines themselves have be design to either be small or be a bit larger with diary software. The interaction with these machines are rubbish and the pouches they come with almost defeat the purpose of the being small, being a reason why these kids are reluctant to use them ( out and about ) and missing the testing when it is now so important. what if the interactions with this technology can be changed?

DIXD MoLI begins

To conclude my research i ended up looking into phonograph as a dead medium, speaking dolls as my dead speaking technology and circuit bending. Got interesting Stuff, the phonograph was sound being recorded on a tin foil cylinder using no electricity and i found that is was used to play music on sowing machines. Using the peddle on these machine to spine the cylinder as well as powering the sowing machine

Now i am in a group with Dave Clement and have decided to create a 1950's - 60's styled speaking teddy bear.

The idea is that you can make it speak by the way you move with it and play with it. Like kids hug bears so it would go "ooooh" and if you shake it it woulb be like "aaaaaaaaah"

Not finished the style for it yet but we are liking the weird toy designs from the 60's and 70's. The stuff like frogman he's like an action man but he swims in the bath. makes me laugh.. why frogman?
